Marianne Howell Wright~ your Chapel Hill Neighborhood Expert
Hi, I am Marianne Howell Wright.I’ve been involved with homes and real estate my whole adult life. I’m from the DC area and went to school in New Mexico and Cincinnati.
When I moved to Chapel Hill from Cincinnati in 1980 (for a husbands job) I had no idea what to expect. My choices were NJ (I pictured towns filled with factories) and Chapel Hill (I pictured Andy and Mayberry ).
I pushed for Andy and Chapel Hill and my Mom, who was originally from Texas, helped me practice a Southern accent.
I was really surprised when we came for a visit that Chapel Hill wasn’t like Mayberry, even back then! Walking down the street and talking with folks I rarely heard a Southern accent but did hear languages from all over the world. Chapel Hill has been home for many years now and I love the Triangle area.
A year or so after we moved to Chapel Hill I was the contractor for our first house. Following in a family tradition, I decided home building was what I wanted to do with my life and career.
I love houses and noticed that the neighborhoods I built in had different personalities and suited different people even if the homes were similar. My interest in neighborhoods and what made them different started then.
In the 1990’s banks restricted construction loans for spec houses and that, combined with other changes in my life, took me down another path. I knew I wanted to keep working with people and houses.
Helping buyers, sellers and builders was the answer and I have done that in different ways ever since.
My husband Chip and I live south of town near Jordan Lake. Chip is from Raleigh has been a real estate broker since the 80’s and works with me now as well as doing commercial real estate and commercial construction. Chip has a website with lots of neighborhood photos and details for Raleigh, BestRaleighNeighborhoods.com.
Chip and I love to go to the coast and like to get away to Harkers Island as often as we can.
My children, raised in Chapel Hill, don’t have a Southern accent although they know how to put one on and show off their Southern heritage.
Frank Lloyd Wright
A couple of years ago we adopted a dog from Saving Grace Pet Rescue in Raleigh. It’s a wonderful place. Dogs are chosen with attention to temperament from shelters where there just isn’t enough room to keep the pets. When they come to Saving Grace they are treated for medical conditions (including heartworms if necessary) and crate and manner trained until adopted.
We kept the name Frank when we adopted him and added his middle name Lloyd.
What I do for you (in a couple of sentences)
The most important thing to me is to help my clients move on with their life with the least amount of stress. I know it is very confusing to decide on a move and figure the best path through all the possible options.
I’ve been working with buyers and sellers in the Chapel Hill and Triangle Area for years and hope my knowledge of the local market, neighborhoods and school systems will give you information to make the best decisions for you and your family.
New technologies allow me to give you information on-line with blogs and video so you can do research before you visit making the neighborhood and home search easier and fun.
